IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s soccer awards for the second week of the 2022 season.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Momo Nakao, So., M, Memphis
Nakao scored the game-winning goals in both contests for the Tigers last week. She scored the opening goal against Iowa State and the second goal against UAB.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Abby Sowa, So., D, East Carolina
Sowa and the Pirate defense did not allow a shot on goal against High Point and only one shot on goal against Old Dominion, two Pirate wins. Sowa also provided a goal from the penalty spot against ODU.
GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Anna Rexford, Jr., Cincinnati
Rexford made four saves in a 1-1 draw against Bowling Green before recording three saves and a clean sheet in a 2-0 win over Murray State.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Sarah Bozeman, GK, Memphis
Bozeman recorded two saves in a shutout win over Iowa State before making two saves in a win over UAB.
HONOR ROLL
Kristen Scott, Sr., F, UCF
Scott recorded a brace in the Knights’ 3-1 win over FGCU.
Sydney Schnell, Jr., F, East Carolina
Schnell scored a goal and added an assist in the Pirates’ win over Old Dominion and provided an assist in a win over High Point.
Caitlyn Matthews, Jr., M, Houston
Matthews provided an assist on both of Houston’s goals in a 2-1 road win at Sam Houston.
Sammy Nieves, So., D, SMU
Nieves scored the lone goal, a highlight-reel shot off the half volley, in the Mustangs’ 1-0 win over Northwestern State.
Kyla Burns, So., GK, Temple
Burns recorded five saves and a clean sheet in the Owls’ 0-0 draw at Penn.
