Wichita State's Rohling, Houston's Georgiades Win Season's First American Weekly Volleyball Awards

IRVING, Texas The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly volleyball awards for the first week of the 2022 season, ending Sunday, August 28.
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Sophia Rohling, Jr., OPP, Wichita State
Rohling had an impressive opening weekend for the Shockers, helping Wichita State go 2-1 including the program’s first win over Iowa State.  The opposite hit .330 on 106 attacks, while finishing with 3.50 kills per set.  She added 15 blocks and 12 digs. Against No. 18 Creighton, Rohling led the Shockers with 14 kills while hitting .407 in the match.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Kate Georgiades, Jr., L, Houston
Georgiades led The American with 6.10 digs per set during opening weekend to help Houston go 2-1. She finished with at least 20 digs in all three matches of the weekend, including 21 against Rice.  Georgiades added five service aces and 10 assists from the libero position.
 
Weekly Honor Roll
 
Payton Frederick, Sr., L, Cincinnati
Frederick hit the 1,000-career digs milestone in the season opening match against Illinois State. In the 3-1 win over (RV) Florida State, she had 15 digs, including six digs in the decisive fourth set.
 
Abby Walker, So., MB, Cincinnati
Walker finished the weekend with an all-around performance. She had 3.15 kills per set while hitting at a clip of .303. Defensively, she led the team with 1.23 blocks per set. In the Bearcats 3-1 win over (RV) Florida State, Walker had 14 kills and three blocks.
 
Angeles Aldrete, Fr., OH, ECU
Aldrete stepped up in her first collegiate matches, finishing the weekend with 4.20 kills/set while hitting at a .371 clip. She came away with her first two double-doubles in the wins over Furman and Norfolk State.
 
Abbie Jackson, Sr., OH, Houston
Jackson led The American with 4.40 kills per set while finishing with double-digit kills in each match.  In the win over LSU, she finished with 19 kills while hitting .264 in the match.
 
CC Clausen, Sr., L, South Florida
Clausen held down the defensive side for South Florida, finishing with 5.42 digs per set in the three matches.  Against (RV) Ball State, the senior finished with a weekend high 35 digs.
