UCF, Cincinnati, South Florida Represented in First Indoor Track & Field Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly indoor track & field awards for the week ending Sunday, January 15.
 
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Steven McElroy, So., Cincinnati
McElroy came out blazing to start the 2023 indoor track & field season, running a 46.76 400 meter dash at the Cardinal Classic. The time is the second fast in Cincinnati program history and currently leads The American and is sixth in NCAA Division I as of January 15.
 
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Romaine Beckford, Sr., South Florida
Beckford won the high jump at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., setting a new South Florida program record along the way. His jump of 2.21 meters leads The American and is the second-best jump in the country as of January 15.
 
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Rayniah Jones, Jr., UCF
Jones won two events for the Knights at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational, taking home first place in the 60 meter hurdles and 200 meter dash. She leads The American in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.49, while ranking 10th in the NCAA in the 60 meter hurdle with a time of 8.21.
 
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Asherah Collins, So., UCF
Collins took home gold at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational in the triple jump with a distance of 12.94 meters. As of January 15, that distance is the best in The American and is eighth in NCAA Division I.
