Memphis’ Davis, Tulane’s Forbes Earn National Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas – Memphis senior guard Kendric Davis and Tulane junior guard Jaylen Forbes both earned national player of the week honors for the week ending January 15.
 
Davis was named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week, while Forbes was honored with the College Insider Lute Olson National Player of the Week. The two players were named The American’s Players of the Week on Monday, January 16.
 
Kendric Davis, Sr., G, Memphis
Davis averaged 31.0 points, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals in a pair of games for the Tigers. Against UCF on Wednesday, Davis recorded 42 points, one shy of The American’s single-game record, while against Temple on Sunday, he scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half and hit a baseline jumper at the buzzer for the win. It is the first time a player from The American or Memphis has earned USBWA National Player of the Week honors.
 
Jaylen Forbes, Jr., G, Tulane
Forbes averaged 29.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals and led the Green Wave to two wins last week. He scored 31 on Wednesday in a road win at SMU and followed that up with 27 points in a win over UCF on Sunday in a battle for second place in The American’s standings.
