IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly indoor track & field awards for the week ending Sunday, January 22.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Scott Beattie, Sr., Tulsa
Beattie turned in a stellar performance at the Larry Wieczorek Invite, setting a meet and facility record in the 3000-meter run. His time of 7:50.10 is the top time in The American this season and the sixth best time in NCAA Division I.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Adria Navajon, So., Wichita State
Navajon took home the top place in the heptathlon at the Lindeman invite, scoring 5,587 points for the meet. He had the top marks in long jump, high jump, 60 meter dash and 60 meter hurdles. His high jump mark is the second best in The American, while his heptathlon point total is fifth best in the NCAA.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Kiah Williams, So., UCF
Williams entered the top three times in program history for the Knights at the Red Raider Open, running a 53.61 400-meter dash. She has the top time in The American and the 15
th-best time in the country as of January 24.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Alyssa Morello, Gr., Memphis
Morello cleared a height of 4.23m (13-10.5) in pole vault at the Vanderbilt Invitational. It is the second best vault in program history and leads the American by .15m (6 inches). As of January 24, Morello has the 11
th best pole vault in the country.
