Houston's Blair, East Carolina's Joyner Repeat Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball awards for the week ending Sunday, February 12.
 
Player of the Week
Laila Blair, Jr., G, Houston
Blair led Houston to a win over first-place and previously unbeaten South Florida on Sunday, scoring 30 points and dishing out four assists. She scored 22 first half points with five three-pointers, including a near half-court buzzer beater just before halftime. She ended the game with six three-pointers and became the first Houston player to score 30 points since 2018.
 
Freshman of the Week
Amiya Joyner, Fr., F, East Carolina
Joyner claims her sixth Freshman of the Week award, averaging a double-double for a second straight week. She averaged 22 points and 12 rebounds in wins over Temple and Wichita State. She scored 23 points with 14 rebounds against Temple before scoring 21 points with 10 rebounds against Wichita State. She moved into the Top 10 in East Carolina for freshman points, fourth in freshman blocks and third in freshman rebounds.
 
Weekly Honor Roll
 
Danae McNeal, Sr., G, East Carolina
McNeal showed up on both ends of the court, averaging 19.5 points per game and four steals per game in wins over Temple and Wichita State.
 
Emani Jefferson, Jr., G, Memphis
Jefferson scored 19 points and brought down 11 rebounds in the win over UCF. She went 11-for-13 from the free throw line.
 
Elena Tsineke, Sr., G, South Florida
Tsineke scored 24 points while shooting 53.9 percent from the field for the Bulls. She added three assists and five rebounds.
 
Chantae Embry, So., F, SMU
Embry finished with a double-double for the Mustangs in the win over Tulsa. She scored 14 points on 60 percent from the floor and grabbed 12 rebounds.
 
Trajata Colbert, Sr., F, Wichita State
Colbert had a pair of double-doubles for the Shockers. She had 20 points and 10 rebounds against Tulane and followed that up with a 17 point, 16 rebound performance against East Carolina.
