IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the first week of the season.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Justin Wilcoxen, Jr., C, East Carolina
Wilcoxen aided the Pirates to a season-opening sweep of George Washington by hitting .714 (10-for-14) with nine runs scored, three doubles, two home runs and eight runs driven in.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Dom Stagliano, So., UCF
Stagliano earned the win in the third game of series sweep against Siena, striking out seven batters in five innings of work while only allowing three hits with one walk.
HONOR ROLL
Ben McCabe, R-Sr., C, UCF
McCabe started off the season with three home runs in the opening game with Siena and finished the week by hitting .500 (6-for-12) with five runs scored and seven RBI.
Ryan Nicholson, R-Jr., 1B, Cincinnati
Nicholson led the Bearcats to a series win at Georgia State by hitting .600 (6-for-10) with four runs scored, a home run and two RBI.
Zach Root, Fr., P, East Carolina
Root earned the win in ECU’s opening game against George Washington by not allowing a run in 3.2 innings of work. He had five strikeouts in the comeback win.
Brayland Skinner, Sr., OF, Memphis
All five of Skinner’s hits were extra base hits, as he recorded four doubles and a home run in the Tigers’ series win vs. Samford.
Bobby Boser, So., UTL, South Florida
Boser started off the season with a bang, hitting two home runs against No. 13 Maryland in Friday’s season opener. He hit .444 (4-for-9) with five runs and four RBI for the week.
