IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly softball awards for the week ending Sunday, February 19.
Player of the Week
Sydney McKinney, Sr., INF, Wichita State
McKinney had an impressive performance at the plate, slashing .765/.789/1.353 across six games for the Shockers. She hit two home runs, including an inside the park home run in the win against San Diego. McKinney record 13 hits and had multiple hits in three of the games, allowing her to score a team-high eight runs. The senior also had three RBI and stole three bases.
Pitcher of the Week
Lauren Howell, Jr., RHP, Wichita State
Felton made two appearances in the circle for the Shockers, collecting two wins against Utah Tech and Fairleigh Dickinson. She tossed a total of 11 innings, including a complete game shut-out against Utah Tech. Howell set a career-high with seven strikeouts in both games, while holding opposing hitters to a .154 batting average. She finished the week with a perfect 0.00 ERA in the two wins.
Weekly Honor Roll
Savannah Adams, So., UTL, UCF
Adams collected nine total hits at the TaxAct Clearwater Invitational, averaging .385 at the plate with a .692 slugging percentage. She hit one home run against No. 15/12 Alabama and drove in two runs.
Hannah Blincoe, So., RHP, Houston
Blincoe earned a win in her lone appearance for the week, tossing a complete game against Morgan State. She allowed just one run off three hits.
Ja’Naiya Thomas, So., INF, Houston
Thomas hit three home runs and hit .556 at the plate for the Cougars. She finished with three hits in two games against No. 12/14 Washington and ten total hits for the week.
Haley Morgan, Sr., OF, Tulsa
Morgan knocked in six runs in five games and scored an additional seven times. She hit .467 with a double and triple, while only striking out one time.
Kylee Nash, Jr., RHP, Tulsa
Nash finished with a 0.47 ERA in three appearances, while picking up two wins. She allowed just one earned run in 15.0 innings pitched while striking out 13 batters.
