East Carolina Sweeps Women's Basketball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball awards for the week ending Sunday, February 26.
 
Player of the Week
Danae McNeal, Sr., G, East Carolina
McNeal had a dominant week for the Pirates, averaging 29 points, three rebounds and 2.5 steals in two games. In the triple overtime win over Houston, McNeal scored a game-high 34 points while playing 53 of the 55 minutes. She led the team with 24 points at Tulane. She has scored 20 or more points in four of the past five games.
 
Freshman of the Week
Amiya Joyner, Fr., F, East Carolina
Joyner is named Freshman of the Week for the eighth time this season, averaging a double-double with 10 points and 14.5 rebounds. In the triple overtime win against Houston, Joyner scored 14 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and dished out five assists. She added 14 more rebounds in the game at Tulane.
 
Weekly Honor Roll
 
Destiny Thomas, Sr., F, UCF
Thomas led UCF to a pair of victories over Temple and Cincinnati. Against the Bearcats, she had 21 points, 20 rebounds, five steals and four blocks.
 
Bria Patterson, Sr., F, Houston
Patterson scored 27 points and recorded six steals in the triple overtime game against East Carolina. She added four rebounds in the game.
 
Madison Griggs, Sr., G, Memphis
Griggs led the Tigers to a pair of wins, including hitting a buzzer-beating three-pointer with 0.9 seconds left in overtime to defeat SMU and put Memphis is sole possession of second place in The American.
 
Sammie Puisis, Jr., G, South Florida
Puisis scored a game-high 27 points in the Bulls win over Tulsa while shooting 7-for-14 from behind the arc.
 
Kyren Whittington, R-So., G, Tulane
Whittington helped lead the Green Wave to a win over East Carolina, scoring 17 points while recording six rebounds and three steals.
