IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly indoor track & field awards for the week ending Sunday, February 5.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Royal Burris, Jr., East Carolina
Burris blazed through two races at the Doc Hale Meet. The junior sprinter won the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.28 and got second in the 60 meter dash with a season-best 6.79. His 200 meter time is the top time in The American this season.
Men’s Field Athletes of the Week
Fred Moudani, Sr., Cincinnati
The senior thrower set a new program and American Athletic Conference record in shot put at the Doc Hale Meet, with a throw of 20.51 meters. It is the second longest shot put in NCAA Division I as of February 6. His throw shattered the previous American Athletic Conference record of 18.73 meters, set by Houston’s Triston Gibbons in 2021.
Cole Riddle, Gr., Memphis
For a third week in a row, Riddle broke his own program record in pole vault, clearing a height of 5.64 meters at the South Alabama Invitational. It is the 5
th best pole vault in the country as of February 6. That mark also broke the American Athletic Conference pole vault record, breaking Cincinnati’s Adrian Valles record of 5.61 meters set in 2018.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Kelly-Ann Beckford, Sr., Houston
Beckford broke a 23-year old Houston record in the 800 meter at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, finishing the race with a time of 2:05.04. Her time is the top mark in The American this season and is the 22
nd fastest time in NCAA Division I as of February 6.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Priscilla Adejokun, Gr., Houston
Adejokun threw for over 21 meters for a third meet this season in the weight throw at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, hitting a mark of 21.04 meters. The distance is second in The American only to her throw from last weekend. She currently ranks in the Top 16 nationally in the weight throw.
