Davis, Williams Shine as No. 2 Memphis Advances at American Men’s Basketball Championship with 81-76 Win over No. 7 UCF

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) – Kendric Davis and DeAndre Williams combined for 68 points as No. 2 seed Memphis defeated seventh-seeded Memphis, 81-76, in the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Championship Friday, March 10 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
 
With the win, the Tigers (24-8) will face the winner of Wichita State/Tulane in the semifinals on Saturday, March 11 at 5 p.m. ET/4 p.m. CT.
 
Williams recorded 35 points and 13 rebounds, while Davis added 33 points and seven assists. The duo accounted for 24 field goals, while four other Tigers had one each. Williams and Davis became the first teammates to score at least 30 points in an American Athletic Conference tournament game.
 
A 9-2 spurt gave UCF (18-14) a 1-point lead at 50-49 with 11:21 remaining, but Davis hit back-to-back threes to give the Tigers back the lead for good.
 
CJ Kelly led the Knights with 28 points.
