IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly softball awards for the week ending Sunday, March 12.
Player of the Week
Aubrey Evans, Fr., INF, UCF
Evans helped lead the Knights to five wins last, while driving in eight runs and scoring an addition three times. The freshman hit five doubles and slugged .706. Against Kennesaw State, she went 3-for-3 and drove in five runs to lead the Knights to an 11-5 win.
Pitcher of the Week
Payton Dixon, R-Fr., LHP, South Florida
Dixon had a hand in all six wins from the Bulls last week. She made seven appearances in the circle, coming away with five wins and one save. She finished the week with three complete games, while holding a 0.88 ERA and 29 strikeouts against just five walks in 32 innings pitched. She earned wins against Army, Penn (twice), Illinois and Saint Francis.
Weekly Honor Roll
Sarah Willis, Jr., RHP, UCF
Willis made three appearances on the mound, finishing with wins against Toledo and Kennesaw State. She struck out 12 batters in 14.2 innings.
Taylor Edwards, Gr., UTL, East Carolina
Edwards slashed .556/.636/1.111 in three games for the Pirates. She finished with four RBI, two doubles and one home run.
Kenna Wilkey, Gr., RHP, Houston
Wilkey earned a pair of wins against Tarleton State last weekend, holding the Texans scoreless in 12.1 innings pitched.
Kailyn Bearpaw, So., OF, Tulsa
Bearpaw drove in a team-best eight RBI for the Golden Hurricane, including going 2-fo-3 against Sam Houston with five RBI.
Lauren Mills, Sr., INF, Wichita State
Mills slashed .636/.750/.818 at the plate for the Shockers, helping lead Wichita State to wins over Nebraska (twice) and Missouri State.
