IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly softball awards for the week ending Sunday, March 19.
Player of the Week
Kathy Garcia-Soto, Fr., INF, South Florida
Garcia-Soto had two walk-off hits for the Bulls, including hitting her first career home run to lift South Florida past No. 11/9 Texas. She hit .500 on the week, scoring six runs and knocking in four RBI. She had a hit in five of the six games she made a plate appearance and drove in one run in four straight games.
Pitcher of the Week
Alex Aguilar, Fr., RHP, Wichita State
Aguilar made two appearances for the Shockers, tossing nine innings and finishing with a perfect 0.00 ERA. She tossed a complete game shutout against Northern Colorado, allowing just three hits in six innings of work. She also threw three innings of relief work against Northern Colorado, allowing no hits and striking out five batters.
Weekly Honor Roll
Grace Jewell, Jr., RHP, UCF
Jewell threw her first career no-hitter against No. 22 Arizona State, striking out four batters and walking just four in six innings of work.
Sarah Willis, Jr., RHP/OF, UCF
Willis slashed .500/.625/.500 on the week. She also added a complete game in the circle, striking out seven batters in seven innings.
Brooke Lorenzo, So., INF, Houston
Lorenzo hit .500 on the week in the three-game series against No. 21/20 Baylor. In the second game of the series, she went 3-for-3 at the plate.
Payton Dixon, R-Fr., LHP, South Florida
Dixon earned three more wins in three appearances for the Bulls. She tossed 14.2 innings, striking out 13 batters and finishing with a 1.43 ERA.
Sydney McKinney, Sr., SS, Wichita State
McKinney had a hit in every game for the Shockers, hitting .526 on the week. She scored five runs and knocked in five RBI.
