IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly outdoor track & field awards for the week ending Sunday, March 19.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Shaun Maswanganyi, Jr., Houston
Maswanganyi transferred the momentum from the indoor season to the outdoor season, running the fastest 100-meter dash time in the country with a time of 10.13 at the Kirk Baptiste Spring Break Invitational. It is the fastest time in The American by 0.17 seconds.
Shevioe Reid, Jr., South Florida
Reid began the outdoor season by blazing through the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.50, the fastest mark in the NCAA as of March 20. He also competed as part of the 4x100 team that ran the third fastest mark in program history and the 22
nd fastest time in the NCAA.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Stone Baker, Sr., South Florida
Kobe Babin, So., South Florida
Baker and Babin tied for first place in pole vault to open the season at the USF Bulls Invitational on March 17. They both cleared a mark of 5.10m (16’8.75”) to win the event. The height is currently the 13
th best mark in the NCAA and is the top mark in The American.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Beyonce Defreitas, Jr., UCF
Defreitas ran a 23.33 200-meter dash at the UCF Black and Gold Invite on March 17. Her time is the 8
th best in the NCAA as of March 20 and the top mark in The American. She was also part of the 4x100 team that ran a 44.79 – the 10
th best time in the NCAA and best in The American.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Jasmine Scott-Kilgo, Sr., UCF
Scott-Kilgo put forth two top three marks in the country in the triple jump and long jump. She has the second best triple jump in the nation with a mark of 13.20m (43’3.75”) and the third best jump in long with a distance of 6.38m (20’11.25”). Both jumps are the best in The American.
