IRVING, Texas The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly outdoor track & field awards for the week ending Sunday, March 26.
 
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Bradley Makuvire, Gr., Tulane
Makuvire set a new school record in the 5000-meter run at the Raleigh Relays, becoming the first Tulane runner to run below at 14:00:00. He broke the 25-year-old record with a time of 13:57.67.  The time is the best mark in The American this season and is the 18th best mark in the country as of March 28.
 
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Brady Palen, Jr., Wichita State
Palen cleared a conference-leading mark in high jump with a height of 2.12m (6’11.5”) to win the event at the Shocker Spring Invitational. The mark is also the 12th best in the NCAA as of March 28.
 
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Latasha Smith, Jr., UCF
Smith blazed to a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash at the Knights Invite with a time of 52.70. The mark is the second best time in the nation and the fastest in The American. She also finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.36. Her 200-meter time is the 11th best in the nation.
 
Rylee Penn, Sr., Cincinnati
Penn set a new Cincinnati program record in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:10.13. She finished in second place at the Raleigh Relays and her time is currently the second-best mark in the nation.
 
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Adrienne Adams, Jr., UCF
Adams broke her own program record in the discus with a throw of 57.76 meters to win the event at the Knights Invite. It is the second time in two meets that she has set a record in discus. Her record-setting mark is currently third-best in the nation and leads The American.
