DAYTONA BEACH (March 28, 2023) – For the second time in three games, Daniel Cantu (Jacksonville) recorded five RBI to help lift the University of South Florida Bulls (10-16) over the Bethune-Cookman University Wildcats (14-11) on Tuesday night, 9-3.
Cantu reached base in all five of his plate appearances, officially going 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a walk, HBP and five RBI to match his career high. John Montes went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and a HBP.
Montes led off the ballgame with a ground-rule double over the left-center field fence and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Drew Brutcher.
The Wildcats tied the game in the bottom of the fourth and proceeded to load the bases with only one out in the inning, but a spectacular defensive play prevented the go-ahead run from scoring. Brutcher made a diving catch in the left-center field gap and quickly recovered to his feet and doubled off the runner at second base to end the inning as the runner tagging from third was also racing home.
After loading the bases in the third inning, but failing to score, USF cashed in four insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh. Montes doubled with one out, Eric Snow walked and Brutcher singled to load the bases. Cantu (Jacksonville) doubled home a pair, while Rafael Betancourt and Travis Sankovich added RBI-singles to cap the frame and give the Bulls a 6-1 advantage.
Cantu delivered again with the bases loaded in the eighth inning with a three-run double to make it a 9-1 ballgame.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 9-5, Tuesday night at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field. The Tigers used nine different pitchers in the win and Anthony Hansen ended a double shy of the cycle.

With the win, Memphis improves to 15-11 on the season. The Golden Lions dropped to 8-16 on the year with the loss.

Logan Kohler's two-run double in the bottom of the first put the Tigers in front early, driving in Hansen and Jake Curtis.
In the fourth, it was Hansen again who added on to the Tiger lead. He deposited a 3-1 pitch over the right-field wall that drove in Kerry Herndon-Brown and grew the Memphis lead to 5-1.
UAPB scratched back for a pair of runs in the fifth, but the Tigers threw up a four spot in their half of the sixth. All with two outs in the inning, the Tigers loaded the bases. Brayland Skinner scored the first run of the frame on a wild pitch, and then Kohler drove in his third, fourth and fifth runs of the game on a three-run, no-doubt homerun to right field to make the score 9-3.
Wichita State 8, Oklahoma 7 -
Box Score
WICHITA, Kan. -- Brock Rodden hit a two-out, go-ahead, three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, and Wichita State rallied past Oklahoma 8-7 on Tuesday night at Riverfront Stadium.
The win marks the first time since 2006 that the Shockers have beaten the Sooners twice in the same season. Dating back to 2022, Wichita State has now won three straight games in the series.
The Shockers (14-10) trailed 7-4 with two outs and a runner at second in the home half of the eighth. Jack Little chopped a ground ball to third base that seemed to end the inning, but Oklahoma third baseman Wallace Clark bounced his throw past first base, allowing the runner from second to score and keeping the inning alive. Now trailing 7-5, Chuck Ingram battled back from a 1-2 count to work a walk, bringing Rodden to the plate. Rodden also fell into a 1-2 hole, but turned on the next pitch from Sooners reliever Carson Pierce (2-1) and drove it over the wall in the right field corner for a three-run homer.
The go-ahead shot capped a monster offensive performance for the Shockers second baseman, who set a new career high with five RBI as part of a 3-for-5 day at the plate.
After taking the lead, the Shockers turned the ball over the Cameron Bye, who struck out the side in the ninth to nail down his first career save.

Box Score
BOCA RATON, Fla. – Despite an early lead and a 13-strikeout performance that held Florida Atlantic to only six hits, errors and runners left on base were the difference for the Knights in their 4-2 loss Tuesday evening at FAU Baseball Stadium.
Two RBI singles in the first inning gave the Knights the lead early in the game, 2-0. Tom Josten sparked the offense for UCF with a double to right field and Ben McCabe followed, drawing a walk on a full-count pitch before Andrew Sundean loaded the bases with a four-pitch walk. Nick Romano drove in the first run on a single to score Josten. After a pitching change, Drew Faurot hit a single to left center, driving in the second run of the inning. Unfortunately, a pair of strikeouts followed for UCF to end the inning.
Play was suspended in the bottom of the first with two away and after an hour and four-minute weather delay, Cameron Crain ended the inning with his second strikeout.
The Knights held onto their 2-0 lead through four as Crain, Cameron Leiter, and Zach Chappell threw four innings of one-hit ball, but the Owls eventually broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth. Scoring four unanswered in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, the Owls took the 4-2 lead aided by a couple UCF defensive mistakes. Three of the Knights' four errors on the night moved runners that eventually scored into scoring position.
It was a bullpen game for both the Knights and Owls, with each team throwing seven pitchers. Both staffs finished with 13 strikeouts.
Dominic Castellano was charged with a tough-luck loss after allowing one earned run in two innings of work, while FAU's Brandon Smith earned the win with one inning in relief to improve to 3-0.
