FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 6 Tulane defeated No. 11 Cincinnati, 61-52, in the third game of the 2023 American Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Championship Monday, March 6 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
With the win, the Green Wave will face No. 3 seed East Carolina in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, March 7 at 9 p.m. ET/8 CT on ESPN+.
Cincinnati (9-21) led by four, 26-22, at the halftime break, but the Green Wave (18-12) defense limited the Bearcats to 28.1 percent (9-32) shooting in the second half and outscored UC, 20-10, in the third.
Kyren Whittington led the Green Wave with 18 points, while Dynah Jones added 15.
Malea Williams led Cincinnati with 12 points.
The Green Wave advanced in the tournament despite Cincinnati leading in points off turnovers, 19-8, and bench points, 28-10. Tulane outrebounded the Bearcats, 45-32.
