FORT WORTH, Texas – Tiara Young scored 26 points as No. 4 seed Houston defeated eighth-seeded Wichita State, 72-64, in the semifinals of the 2023 American Women’s Basketball Championship Wednesday, March 8 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Cougars (15-15) will face the winner of Tulane/Memphis in the championship game on Thursday, March 9 at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT on ESPNU and simulcast on ESPN+.
Young made 10 field goals on the way to a game-high 26 points, while Laila Blair added 19.
Wichita State took a 53-51 lead with 7:59 remaining, but Houston went on a 13-0 run over the next two and a half minutes, including an individual 8-0 run by Young, to pull away.
The Shockers were led by Curtessia Dean with 15 points.
