FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 6 Wichita State defeated No. 11 Tulsa, 81-63, in the third game of the 2023 American Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Championship Thursday, March 9 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
With the win, the Shockers (17-14) will face No. 3 Tulane in the quarterfinals on Friday, March 10 at 9 p.m. ET/8 CT on ESPNU.
The Shockers scored the first 10 points of the game and held Tulsa (5-25) scoreless for the first five and a half minutes.
Wichita State shot 56.9 percent from the field (33-58) and led in rebounding, 35-26.
Three Shockers led the team with 13 points each, including Jaron Pierre Jr, Kenny Pohto and James Rojas.
Tim Dalger led all scorers with 21 points for the Golden Hurricane.
