Wichita State Sweeps Weekly Softball Honors

IRVING, Texas The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly softball awards for the week ending Sunday, April 9.
 
Player of the Week
Sydney McKinney, Sr., INF, Wichita State
McKinney claims her third Player of the Week honor after slashing .692/.722/1.077 in a 4-0 week for the Shockers that featured a win over No. 2 Oklahoma State.  McKinney went 2-for-4 against the Cowgirls, scoring one run and driving in another, while going a combined 7-for-9 with eight RBI and eight runs scored in the series sweep of Memphis.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Alex Aguilar, Fr., RHP, Wichita State
Aguilar earns her second Pitcher of the Week award as the freshman helped guide the Shockers to two wins against Memphis. She began the weekend with a complete-game shutout, tossing five innings and striking out three batters before ending the series with a win in relief effort, throwing six shutout innings and striking out five Tigers. For the week, Aguilar struck out eight batters across 11 shutout innings.
 
Weekly Honor Roll
 
Taylor Edwards, Gr., UTL, East Carolina
Edwards helped the Pirates to their first conference win, going 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and one home run in game two of the series against Houston.
 
Turiya Coleman, So., INF/C, Houston
Coleman scored a run in every game against the Pirates, helping the Cougars earn a conference series win. She went 5-for-8 at the plate with four runs scored in the three-game series.
 
Kenna Wilkey, Gr., RHP, Houston
Wilkey guided the Cougars to three wins for the week, striking out 32 batters against 20.2 innings pitched. She pitched two complete games, including a shutout against SFA.
 
Kathy Garcia Soto, Fr., INF, South Florida
Garcia Soto was instrumental in the series opening win over Tulsa, going 3-for-4 at the plate with one home run, three RBI and three runs scored.
 
Gabriella Nori, Sr., LHP, South Florida
Nori made three appearances in the circle for the Bulls and brought home a pair of wins. She struck out 11 batters across 14 innings in the series win over Tulsa.
