East Carolina 10, NC Central 2 – Box Score
GREENVILLE, N.C. – Taylor Edwards went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored two runs as East Carolina run-ruled N.C. Central 10-2 in five innings on Wednesday afternoon at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.
The Pirates (26-20, 3-9 The American) only registered four hits on the afternoon but ECU capitalized on Eagles' (13-26, 11-2 MEAC) errors and drew seven walks to rack up runs.
After entering the bottom of the third with a 2-0 lead, the Pirates surged ahead with a six-run, three-hit inning to take an 8-0 lead. N.C. Central would prolong the game after the Pirates emptied the bench, scoring two runs in the top of the fifth on two hits to make the score 8-2.
The Pirates would draw two walks in the bottom of the fifth and Sophie Wools would score on a sacrifice fly from Sydney Yoder and Malea Rolle would cross home on a passed ball to end the game.
Jordan Hatch (12-8) picked up the win with six strikeouts and only allowed one hit in three innings. Ashanti Eubanks (5-11) surrendered four hits and five earned runs in four innings for the loss.
Mississippi State 5, Memphis 0 – Box Score
STARKVILLE, MS – The Memphis softball team fell to Mississippi State 5-0 on Wednesday night. The Tigers (8-35) struggled to capitalize with runners on base and while also falling short on the defensive end. Memphis gave up five runs on six hits in six innings.
Memphis recorded the first hit of the night with its first batter. Linsey Hargis grounded the ball through left field before reaching base in the top of the first inning. Hargis would be left stranded at third to end the top of the first inning.
Mississippi State got on the board first as Malau'ulu hit a sacrifice fly to center field allowing Kennedy to score the run for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the third inning. Mississippi Stated added two more runs before ending the inning.
The Bulldogs added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning as McKenna hit a sacrifice bunt bringing Landers in for the score.
Drue Thomas came in as relief for the Tigers in the bottom of the fifth inning with bases loaded and two outs, striking out the batter to end the inning.
Florida 7, South Florida 3 – Box Score
GAINESVILLE – The South Florida Bulls fell to No. 13 Florida in Gainesville 7-3 on Wednesday. South Florida falls to 27-19 on the season with the loss.
Gabriella Nori started in the circle, tossing 4.0 innings. She struck out four batters and allowed three runs off five hits. Vivian Ponn (L, 3-1) threw one inning of relief, allowing three runs off five hits. Lexie Kopko allowed one run in one inning.
Vivian Ponn led the Bulls at the plate, going 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI. Jordyn Kadlub went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
The Gators took a 2-0 lead in the first inning following a two-run home run. The Bulls would get one back in the top of the second with a Kadlub double down the left field line, but the Gators answered with one run of their own.
Ponn would tie the game with a two-run home run in the fourth before the Gators used a walk-off grand slam to win the game.
