UCF's Jewell, Wichita State's McKinney Earn Softball Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly softball awards for the week ending Sunday, April 2.
 
Player of the Week
Sydney McKinney, Sr., INF, Wichita State
McKinney continued her strong season, slashing .571/.600/.929 to help the Shockers to a 4-0 week. She was responsible for 13 of the runs, scoring nine times and driving in four additional runs. McKinney had multiple hits in three of the four games and scored three runs in three straight games.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Grace Jewell, Jr., RHP, UCF
Jewell made three appearances for the Knights, ending with a 2-0 record with two starts, while helping UCF pick up a third win with 4.2 innings of relief pitching. In her two starts, she was in the circle for 13.1 innings, allowing just one run and five hits. She threw a complete game shutout against East Carolina, throwing seven innings in the win.
 
Weekly Honor Roll
 
Shannon Doherty, Jr., 1B, UCF
Doherty slashed .625/.714/.875 to help the Knights to a 4-0 week, driving in four runs and scoring an additional three times.
 
Madison Berner, Fr., OF, Memphis
Berner helped the Tigers pick up their first conference win of the season, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI in the series finale against Tulsa.
 
Rylee Keith, Sr., C, Tulsa
Keith drove in five runs for the Golden Hurricane while having at least one hit and RBI in every game she had a plate appearance.
 
Maura Moore, So, RHP, Tulsa
Moore threw a no-hitter in the 7-0 win over Memphis, tossing 7.0 innings and striking out 11 batters against just two walks.
 
Alex Aguilar, Fr., RHP, Wichita State
Aguilar threw a shutout against South Florida, tossing 5.0 innings and allowing just four hits in the Shocker’s 14-0 win over the Bulls.
