Rice, Memphis Standouts Named September Players Of The Month

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of its men’s and women’s tennis Player of the Month honors for the month of September.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Petro Kuzmenok • So. • Rice • Fairfield, Conn.
Kuzmenok earned a team-high four singles wins and a doubles sweep at a fall event in September as he competed in the Islander Open and the ITA All-American Championship prequalifying round. He scored singles wins against opponents from Abliene Christian and UTSA in the Islander Open before taking wins against Middle Tennessee and Notre Dame in the ITA event. He additional paired with Gabriel Porras to earn doubles victories against Abilene Christian, UTRGV and UTSA in the Islander Open.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Moeller won five consecutive matches in the ITA All-American Championships to advance from the prequalifying stage to the main draw, advancing the farthest of any American Athletic Conference player in the national event. She scored prequalifying wins against opponents from Clemson, Washington and Appalachian State to advance to the qualifying round, where she knocked off opponents from Harvard and Florida, including  a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 win against the Gators’ Talia Neilson-Gatenby, who is ranked No. 122, to reach the man draw. Moeller advanced to the third round of the consolation bracket before falling to No. 2-ranked Dasha Vidmanova of Georgia.
