THE GAME

The Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl will be played for the seventh time in the 2024 season … The game originated in 2014 as the Miami Beach Bowl before it was acquired by ESPN Events and relocated to Frisco for the 2017 season  … American Athletic Conference teams have made two previous appearances in the bowl - SMU fell to Louisiana Tech in the 2017 matchup, while UTSA topped Marshall in last year’s game … This year’s game will be the first meeting between Memphis and West Virginia, which is the first Big 12 team to compete in the Frisco Bowl.

Memphis is making its 18th bowl appearance in program history with this year’s trip to the Frisco Bowl … The Tigers have been bowl-eligible for 11 consecutive seasons including this year … Memphis is  one of seven FBS teams with at least 11 consecutive seasons of bowl eligibility, joining Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Iowa … Memphis finished the regular season at 10-2, hitting the 10-win mark for the sixth time in program history and turning in back-to-back 10-win seasons for the first time … The game against West Virginia will be Memphis’ second consecutive bowl game against a Big 12 opponent after the Tigers defeated Iowa State in last year’s Liberty Bowl … Memphis has scored at least 20 points in 39 consecutive games, which is the longest active streak nationally … The Tigers went 7-0 at home and are 3-2 away from Memphis this season … Memphis’ only losses this season were a setback at Navy in September and an eight-point defeat at UTSA to start November … QB Seth Henigan, a native of Denton, Texas, wraps up his career in his hometown as the only four-year FBS player to start at quarterback for the same team in all four years … Henigan enters the Frisco Bowl with an American Athletic Conference-record 13,972 career passing yards, breaking the old mark of 13,927 yards set by former East Carolina QB Holton Ahlers (2018-22) … Henigan has 102 career touchdown passes and needs three TDs to break Ahlers’ conference record … Henigan trails only Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel (18,423) and Washington’s Will Rogers (14,773) on the career list among active FBS players … Henigan is second among American Athletic Conference players in passing in 2024 with 267.3 yards per game … RB Mario Anderson Jr. rankss second in The American in rushing at 107.7 yards per game … Anderson, a first-team all-conference selection, rushed fro 1,292 yards and 17 touchdowns in the regular season … WR Roc Taylor, another first-team all-conference pick, has 61 receptions for 834 yards and two touchdowns … LB Chandler Martin was  has 94 tackles, 7.0 sacks and 15.0 tackles for loss to go with four fumble recoveries … CB Davion Ross was a first-team choice after he had 45 tackles, with three interceptions and 11 pass breakups in the regular season

West Virginia is making its 41st bowl appearance in program history and is in postseason play for the 20th time in the last 23 seasons … The Mountaineers are 17-23 all-time in bowl games and are making their first appearance in the Frisco Bowl … West Virginia will be led by offensive coordinator/running backs coach Chad Scott in the Frisco Bowl after Neal Brown was relieved of his duties in his sixth season … Former Mountaineer head coach Rich Rodriguez (2001-07) will resume his role in Morgantown after the bowl … Rodriguez, who served as head coach at Michigan, Arizona and Jacksonville State after leaving West Virignia, led Jacksonville State to the Conference USA title in 2024 … West Virginia will face its fourth top-25 opponent this season with the game against Memphis as the Mountaineers look for their first win against a ranked team this year … West Virginia has outscored its opponents by an 82-47 margin in the first quarter, but the Mountaineers have been outscored 260-226 in the next three periods … QB Garrett Greene has completed 160 of 275 passes for 1,972 yards and 13 touchdowns against 11 interceptions as he battled injuries through the season  … Greene is the Mountaineers’ third-leading rusher wtih 638 yards and five TDs on the ground … QB Nicco Marchiol made two starts in Greene’s absence and has played in eight games overall in 2024 … Marchiol has thrown for 434 yards and five touchdowns with two interceptions … RB Jahiem White is the leading rusher with 817 yards and seven touchdowns on 142 carries … WR Hudson Clement has a team-high 40 receptions for 575 yards and three TDs, while WR Koie Taylor has 39 catches for 404 yards and three TDs … OT Wyatt Milum was named as the Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year … LB Josiah Trotter was named the Big 12’s Defensive Freshman of the Year after he finished the regular season second on the Mountaineers with 92 tackles … Trotter entered the transfer portal following the regular season and will not play in the Frisco Bowl … S Anthony Wilson Jr. has a team-high 94 tackles with two interceptions, while LB Trey Lathan has 72 stops to go with 8.0 tackles for loss … K Michael Hayes II made 12 of 13 field goal attempts, while P Oliver Straw averaged 43.7 yards on 33 punts.
