07.30.24

IRVING, Texas - Five American Athletic Conference players were among the 75 linemen nationally who were named to the 2024 Outland Trophy preseaosn watch list.

The Outland Trophy annually honors the standout interior lineman in college football.

The American's candidates include North Texas offensive guard Gabe Blair, UTSA defensive tackle Brandon Brown, South Florida offensive guard Zane Herring, Memphis offensive guard Xavier Hill and Tulane defensive tackle Patrick Jenkins.

The FWAA will announce the Outland Trophy semifinalists on Nov. 20, and those players will then be paired down to three finalists announced on Nov. 26. The Outland Trophy winner is chosen from those finalists who will be part of the annual FWAA All-America Team. The FWAA All-America Committee, after voting input from the entire membership, selects a 26-man first team and eventually the three Outland finalists. Committee members, then by individual ballot, select the winner. Only interior linemen on offense or defense are eligible for the award; ends are not eligible.

The American Athletic Conference has had one previous winner of the Outland Trophy. Former Houston standout Ed Oliver was the 2017 winner when the Cougars were members of the conference.
