LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Memphis' PJ Haggerty
was named to the John R. Wooden Award Midseason Top 25, announced Wednesday by the Los Angeles Athletic Club.
The list, comprised of 25 student-athletes who are front-runners for the sport's most prestigious honor, was determined by a poll of national college basketball experts based on the performances during the 2024-25 season thus far. Haggerty is looking to become the first Tiger to ever win the Wooden Award.
The Crosby, Texas native leads the 19th-ranked Tigers (12-3) in scoring at 22.2 points per game, which is tops in the American Athletic Conference and fourth nationally.
Going along with 5.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.0 steals, Haggerty is the only player in the country averaging at least 22.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
Haggerty is one of the best in the nation in getting to the free throw line and converting. He leads all of Division I in free throws made (110), ranks third in free throw attempts (134) and stands sixth nationally in total points scored (333).
He leads The American with 10 games of 20-plus points and three player of the week honors.
As the 2024-25 college basketball season progresses, the Wooden Award will feature a late season watch list and the national ballot.
The players on the list are considered strong candidates for the 2025 John R. Wooden Award Men's Player of the Year presented by Principal. Players not chosen to the preseason or midseason list are still eligible for the Wooden Award™ National Ballot.
The national ballot will consist of 15 top players who have proven to their universities that they meet or exceed the qualifications of the Wooden Award. Nearly 1,000 voters will rank those players when voting opens prior to the NCAA Tournament and will allow voters to take into consideration performance during early round games.
The Wooden Award All-American Team will be announced during the week of the NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight.
The winners and the All Americans of the 2025 John R. Wooden Award, presented by Principal, will be honored at the Los Angeles Athletic Club on Friday, April 11, 2025.
