TAMPA, Fla. – Second-seeded South Florida advanced to the semifinals of the 2025 American Volleyball Championship with a 3–1 victory over No. 7 Charlotte on Friday at The Corral, winning by scores of 26–24, 25–19, 19–25, 30–28.
Maria Clara Andrade led the Bulls with a match-high 21 kills, hitting .372 while adding 13 digs and two blocks. Laila Ivey added 18 kills, and Arianna Beckham finished with 12 kills. Setter Raegan Richardson directed the offense with 59 assists.
South Florida (17–11) hit .371 for the match and posted six team blocks, closing out the fourth-set marathon behind consecutive kills from Andrade.
Charlotte (17–12) was paced by Jessica Ricks, who recorded 17 kills and hit .314. Kristen Birmingham contributed 11 kills while hitting .375. Setter Maddie Stuesser totaled 28 assists, while libero Annika Thompson collected a match-best 13 digs to lead the 49ers defensively.
With the win, South Florida advances to Saturday’s semifinals, where the Bulls will face the winner of No. 3 Tulsa vs. No. 6 Florida Atlantic. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
