IRVING, Texas – The American Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly football honors from Week 13 of the 2025 season.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Wyatt Young • So. • SO • North Texas
Young broke the American’s single-game receiving record with 295 yards on just eight catches including two touchdowns in the Mean Green’s win at Rice. Young, who averaged 36.9 yards per catch, had touchdown catches of 74 and 84 yards. The 295 yards broke the previous conference record of 283, set by C.J. Johnson for East Carolina vs. Cincinnati on Nov. 2, 2019.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Shad Banks • R-Sr. • LB • UTSA
Banks posted 10 tackles, recovered a fumble and had a 21-yard interception return for touchdown in the Roadrunner’s win over East Carolina. He became the first Roadrunner to record a pick six and have a fumble recovery in the same game.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Patrick Durkin • R-Fr. • K • Tulane
Durkin scored a total of 17 points for the Green Wave as they defeated Temple on the road. The redshirt freshman was 5-for-5 on field goals, one shy of the conference record, connecting from 50, 36, 38, 42 and 52 yards. Durkin was also 2-of-2 on extra points.
HONORABLE MENTION
Caden Veltkamp • R-Jr. • QB • Florida Atlantic
Completed 42-of-55 passes for 494 yards with two touchdowns against UConn on Saturday. He distributed the ball to three 100-yard receivers in the same game, a first in program history.
Byrum Brown • Sr. • QB • South Florida
Accounted for five touchdowns (three passing, two rushing) while throwing for 353 passing yards in the 48-18 win over UAB.
Owen McCown • R-Jr. • QB • UTSA
Threw for 248 yards on 24-of-33 passing with five touchdowns in the 58-24 win over East Carolina.
Jake Retzlaff • Jr • QB • Tulane
Accounted for three touchdowns (two passing, one rushing) while throwing for 231 yards in the 37-13 win at Temple.
Dominic Richardson • R-Sr. • RB • Tulsa
Rushed for a career-high 203 yards on 28 attempts (7.3 yards per carry) with a touchdown in the 26-25 come-from-behind win at Army.
