IRVING, Texas – The American Conference has announced the weekly women’s swimming and diving honors.
Swimming Athlete of the Week
Ava Portello, Sophomore, Rice
Portello earned three top-3 individual finishes at the Phil Hansel Invitational in Houston this past weekend. The sophomore won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:41.79, first in the American this season and 31
st in Division I. She also placed second in the 1,650 freestyle in 16:26.29, second in the conference and 34
th in D1. She also earned third in the 200 free in 1:47.42, which is first in the conference this year.
Freshman Swimming Athlete of the Week
Gwyneth Frick, Liberty
Frick won three individual events at the TYR ’85 Invite in Lynchburg, Virginia. The freshman swept the backstroke events, winning the 100-yard event in 52.97 and the 200 event in 1:56.10. She also claimed the 200-yard individual medley in 1:59.77. Her backstroke times are both first in the American this season, while her 200 IM time is second. All three times are top 100 times in Division I this season.
Diving Athlete of the Week
Kamryn Wong, Sr., North Texas
Wong earned a pair of NCAA Zone Diving-qualifying scores at the SMU Invitational in Dallas, including a third-place finish on 3-meter with a total score of 323.95 points. She also finished sixth on 1-meter with 262.75 in the finals after posting a Zone mark in prelims with 283.55 points.
Freshman Diving Athlete of the Week
Mercy Goodnight, Liberty
Goodnight made the finals on all three boards at the TYR ’85 Invite in Lynchburg. She finished fourth on 3-meter with a finals score of 267.40 after an NCAA Zone-qualifying mark of 294.40 in prelims. She also placed fifth on 1-meter with a finals score of 258.00 and sixth on platform with a score of 177.15.
