Albers’ Header Propels Rice to 1-0 Win over Tulsa at American Women’s Soccer Championship

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Florida – Sixth-seeded Rice defeated No. 3 seed Tulsa, 1-0, in the second quarterfinal of the 2025 American Women’s Soccer Championship, Monday, November 3 at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.
 
With the win, the Owls (10-3-5) will play No. 7 seed South Florida, which defeated Charlotte 3-0 earlier on Monday, in the semifinals on Thursday, November 6 at 4 p.m. Eastern on ESPN+. Tulsa falls to 9-6-5 on the season.
 
Rice led in shots 10-6 in the first half and forced Tulsa goalkeeper Tatum Sanders into six saves, but the match was scoreless at the break.
 
In the 59th minute, American Freshman of the Year Jordyn Jaeger launched a free kick into the box from near midfield and Eileen Albers met it with a header that slid into the bottom right of the net to provide the Owls a 1-0 lead.
 
The Golden Hurricane poured on the pressure, leading the second half in shots, 13-4, but was unable to beat Kirsten Ruf, who made nine saves for Rice.
