MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A first-time champion will be crowned Sunday at the 2025 American Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Championship after Memphis and Rice advanced to the championship final with semifinal wins Saturday morning.
The Tigers scored a 4-2 win against Florida Atlantic to reach the championship final for the third time in the last four years, while the Owls advanced after a grueling 4-3 win against top-seeded South Florida.

Memphis 4, Florida Atlantic 2

Memphis won at the top three singles positions as the Tigers advanced to the championship final of the American Championship with a 4-2 win against Florida Atlantic Saturday morning.
Memphis is in the championship final for the second consecutive year and the third time in the last four years. The Tigers will play for their first American title Sunday at 10 a.m. CT.
The Tigers won four singles matches in straight sets as Conor Gannon, Pablo Alemany, Harry Rock and Sam Reeve came away with victories after Florida Atlantic had opened the scoring by taking the doubles point.
Reeve put Memphis on the board with his 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles, while Alemany followed moments later with a 6-2, 6-3 decision at No. 2. Rock closed out a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 before the Owls got one back on Marek Pazdera’s 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 6 position.
Gannon clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 1 spot in a battle of ranked players. Ganon, ranked No. 114 by the ITA topped the Owls’ John Bernard, who is No. 109.
Rice 4, South Florida 3

Kabeer Kapasi won a third-set tiebreaker in the decisive match to send Rice to the championship final of the American Championship for the first time with a 4-3 win against top-seeded South Florida in a four-hour marathon Saturday morning.
South Florida had built a 3-2 lead on Hugo Car’s 7-6 (5), 6-4 win at No. 1 singles, but Rice’s Petro Kuzmenok answered with a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 2 to forge a 3-3 tie, sending the focus to Court 6.
Kapasi dropped his first set to Toto Llanes of South Florida, but bounced back to take the second before a back-and-forth third set went to a 6-all tiebreaker. Kapasi scored the first five points of the tiebreaker and held off Llanes’ late push to take a 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (4) victory.
A tiebreaker proved to be the difference in the doubles round as well as Rice’s Tommy Czaplinski and Eduardo Morais scored a 7-6 (7) victory to give the Owls the early lead.
