Both East Carolina and UTSA picked up wins in their respective openers in the NCAA Regionals on Friday, May 30.
East Carolina 11, Florida 6 - Conway Regional
The Pirates jumped on the Gators early with at least two runs in each of the first four innings. That was all starter Ethan Norby needed, going 7.1 innings with three runs allowed while striking out 10 batters with no walks. Austin Irby had a career day, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored, a double, a home run and three RBI.
East Carolina will face the winner of Coastal Carolina and Fairfield in the winner's bracket on Saturday, May 31 at 6 p.m. Eastern.
UTSA 10, Kansas State 2 - Austin Regional
The Roadrunners used a 3-run sixth inning and a 4-run seventh to pull away from Kansas State. James Taussig's 3-run home run in the sixth pushed the lead to 6-1. Zach Royse earned the win, going 5.1 innings with one earned run allowed and five strikeouts. The win was the Roadrunners first ever victory in an NCAA Championship game (0-6 previously).
UTSA will face Texas in the winner's bracket of the Austin Regional on Saturday, May 31 at 9 p.m. Eastern.
