UTSA defeated Texas, 7-4, on Sunday night, June 1, to win the Austin Regional and claim its first NCAA Regional Championship in program history.
Coming into this year's national tournament, the Roadrunners were 0-6 in previous NCAA Regionals. After defeating Kansas State on Friday and Texas on Saturday night, UTSA had to defeat the Longhorns once again to advance to the Super Regionals.
Norris McClure hit a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first and UTSA scored five runs in the bottom of the third to take a commanding lead. Gunnar Brown (4-2) earned the win, going 5.1 innings with one run allowed and four strikeouts. Robert Orloski earned his ninth save of the year, going the final three innings.
The Roadrunners will play in the Super Regionals next weekend against UCLA or UC Irvine.
UTSA became the eighth team from The American to win a regional championship and the first since East Carolina in 2022.
