09.06.25

PHILADELPHIA — Evan Simon threw three first-half touchdown passes and Temple dominated from start to finish in a 55-7 rout of Howard on Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field.

The Owls (2-0) opened with three straight touchdown drives and never looked back. Terrez Worthy capped the first possession with a 13-yard scoring run, then Simon connected with Jojo Bermudez from 24 yards and Colin Chase from 8 to make it 21-0 after one quarter. Simon later found Kajiya Hollawayne for a 4-yard touchdown, part of a near-perfect 8-of-10 passing day for 174 yards and three scores.

Jay Ducker rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown, while Harold Smith broke free for a 65-yard score in the fourth quarter. In all, Temple rolled up 560 yards of offense, including 329 on the ground, and scored on eight of its 11 drives.

Backup quarterback Gevani McCoy was also sharp, completing all six of his throws for 57 yards, including a 12-yard touchdown to Jaden Smith. Chase and Hollawayne each had touchdown receptions, and Bermudez added 83 all-purpose yards.

Howard (1-1) briefly cut the deficit to 21-7 on a 1-yard touchdown pass from Tyriq Starks to KD Mosley in the second quarter, but the Bison mustered just 121 total yards. Temple’s defense forced six three-and-outs, intercepted one pass, and limited Howard to 2.5 yards per play.

Carl Hardin kicked field goals of 45 and 31 yards for the Owls, who held the ball for more than 36 minutes and were 6-for-6 in the red zone.
