GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Nico Gramatica drilled a 20-yard field goal as time expired, and South Florida stunned No. 13 Florida 18-16 on Saturday night at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium — giving the Bulls back-to-back wins over Top 25 opponents for the first time since 2007.
Quarterback Byrum Brown threw for 263 yards and a 66-yard touchdown to Keshawn Singleton late in the third quarter, and the Bulls (2-0) added a safety on the ensuing drive to build a 15-9 lead. Florida regained the advantage on DJ Lagway’s 4-yard touchdown pass to Eugene Wilson III early in the fourth, but Brown guided an 87-yard drive in the final minutes to set up Gramatica’s game-winner.
South Florida defeated then-No. 25 Boise State a week earlier, and followed with its first road win over an SEC opponent since 2007. Brown finished 23 of 36 without an interception, spreading completions to seven different receivers. Singleton had two catches for 75 yards and the touchdown, while Alvon Isaac totaled 136 all-purpose yards.
The Bulls’ defense held firm in key moments, forcing a third-quarter interception and seven tackles for loss. Linebacker Mac Harris led with 10 tackles, including a sack.
Florida (1-1) was led by Jadan Baugh’s 93 rushing yards and Wilson’s seven catches for 60 yards and a score. Trey Smack kicked three first-half field goals to put the Gators ahead 9-6 at the break.
South Florida finished with 391 yards to Florida’s 355, despite holding the ball for less than 25 minutes.
