UConn reached 20 wins for the 21st consecutive season, Rutgers snapped a two-game losing streak and Temple fell to Penn in Philadelphia Big 5 action during women’s basketball action around The American on Wednesday.
Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis had 20 points and Bria Hartley added 20 for UConn in the Huskies 83-49 win over Memphis in Hartford. UConn won its 26th straight game dating to last year’s NCAA championship. Breigha Wilder-Cochran scored 12 points to lead Memphis, which had a three-game winning streak snapped. Asianna Fuqua-Bey added 10 points and six rebounds for the Tigers.
Rutgers had three players in double-figure scoring in a 69-48 win over UCF at CFE Arena. The Scarlet Knights shot 50.8 percent from the field (30-for-59), marking the fourth time this season the team has shot 50 percent or better from the floor. Sara Djassi and Stephanie Taylor recorded a team-high 14 points apiece for UCF. Taylor fell two free-throws shy of matching the school record for free-throw percentage after going 8-for-8 from the charity stripe.
Temple dropped a 74-70 decision to local foe Penn on Wednesday. The Owls wrapped up Philadelphia Big 5 action with a 1-3 mark. It was a back and forth contest in the second half with the teams battling to a 70-70 tie with 47 seconds left. The Quakers scored the final four points for the win. Taylor Robinson led Temple with her first double-double with career-highs of 16 points and 15 rebounds. Natasha Thames posted her fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Conference play resumes on Saturday. Cincinnati hosts UCF, Rutgers travels to Temple (2 p.m. eastern, American) and Houston and SMU will battle at 3 p.m. ET. The game will air live on The American Digital Network.
