The American Today: USF and Memphis Pick Up Home Wins

USF moved into a third-place tie in league standings and Memphis picked up its fourth conference win of the season during Wednesday women’s basketball action.

The Bulls had four players in double figures in a 71-53 win over Houston. Courtney Williams (20 points, 10 rebounds) and Alisia Jenkins (10 points, 16 rebounds) each posted double-doubles for USF. Houston got 14 points apiece from Marche’ Amerson and Demetria Foreman.

Memphis held off UCF, 62-53, at Elma Roane Fieldhouse. Ariel Hearn scored six points in the final minute of action and helped seal the win for the Tigers. She led all players with 18 points. Sara Djassi had 17 points and led UCF in scoring for the sixth-straight game.

Four games highlight the conference schedule on Saturday, Feb. 1. Memphis travels to Rutgers (11:30 a.m.) and Cincinnati hosts No. 1/1 UConn (2 p.m.), both games will be streamed live on ESPN3. Houston faces UCF at 4 p.m. on The American Digital Network and Temple travels to SMU for a 4:30 p.m. ET contest.
