UCF downed Oakland and moved to 2-0 on the year, while Tulsa defeated Lamar and picked up its first win of the season during women's basketball action around The American on Monday.
UCF 98, Oakland 65
UCF head coach Joi Williams won her 100th game with the Knights in a 98-65 victory over Oakland Monday evening at CFE Arena.
Zykira Lewis put up a game-high 28 points fueled by a 6-of-10 performance from 3-point range. She was joined in double digits by Brittni Montgomery, who posted a double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds), freshman Nyala Shuler (career-high 15 points) and sophomore Makenzi Reasor (career-high 12 points).
The Knights (2-0) notched back-to-back 90-point outings for the first time since 1991. UCF got an extra boost from the free throw line, where they converted 32-of-42, one free throw shy of matching the school record.
Tulsa 73, Lamar 69
Kadan Brady scored a career-high 23 points as the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (1-1) captured a 73-69 win over the Lamar Cardinals (0-2) Monday night in front of 896 fans at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
Brady converted a career-best 6-of-13 three-pointers while leading the Hurricane. Fellow senior Mariah Turner added 14 points, while sophomore Ashley Hughes added nine points and a team-high six rebounds.
After shooting just 36-percent in the first half, Tulsa shot 56-percent in the second half, making 15-of-27 field goals, including 5-of-10 three-pointers. Brady had three treys in each half for the Hurricane.
No. 6/6 Stanford 88, No. 1/1 UConn 86 (OT)
Stanford topped UConn in overtime, 88-86, Monday evening at Maples Pavilion. The loss ended the Huskies' 47-game winning streak, the fourth longest in NCAA Division I history, and extended the Cardinal home winning streak to 28 games.
Breanna Stewart scored 23 points and Saniya Chong added a career-high 20 for UConn.
Amber Orrange made a go-ahead jumper with 1:38 left in overtime and the tying 3-pointer with 1.4 seconds remaining in regulation to send Stanford (2-0) to the upset in a rematch of last spring's national semifinals. UConn (1-1) had won four straight and seven of eight in the series with the Cardinal.
Incarnate Word 50, Houston 48
Houston fell just short on Monday night as the Cougars were topped by Incarnate Word, 50-48, at Hofheinz Pavilion.
The Cougars trailed by as many as 12 points in the second half before mounting a rally to tie the game. But two Incarnate Word free throws with :02 left sealed the deal for the visitors.
Alecia Smith scored a game-high 16 points for Houston, while Jessieka Palmer added 12 points and eight rebounds on 6-for-12 shooting (.500) from the field.
