A 60-percent shooting performance from Rutgers was too much for Temple to handle, as the No. 17/19 Scarlet Knights handed the Owls an 88-55 loss on Wednesday night at McGonigle Hall. Temple dipped to 3-6 with the loss, while Rutgers improved to 8-1 on the season.
Tyonna Williams led Temple with 14 points and a game-high seven assists. Khadijah Berger added nine points for the Owls, while Tanaya Atkinson and Safiya Martin each added eight points. Erica Covile was the team's top rebounder, pulling down seven boards.
Rutgers opened up an 18-point lead late in the first half. The Scarlet Knights shot 60.6% en route to a 45-27 advantage at the break. Temple shot 28.1% from the field, but kept themselves in the game by hitting 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Rutgers didn't let up in the second half, quickly growing their lead to 25 points.
