RV/RV USF 67, College of Charleston 47
Freshman Laura Ferreira led four Bulls in double figures with a career-high 16 points as USF cruised past College of Charleston, 67-47, Sunday afternoon at the Sun Dome. Tamara Taylor posted her fifth game of the season in double figures with 14 points while Courtney Williams and Maria Jespersen scored 12 points apiece for the Bulls. USF collected 19 assists and made things difficult on the other end of the floor, forcing a season-high 21 turnovers. College of Charleston (0-8) went 18-for-60 (30 percent) from the field while Erin Hall and Mikaela Hopkins led the Cougars with eight points apiece.
Xavier 72, Cincinnati 71
Cincinnati had its second-best offensive output of the season but fell to crosstown rival Xavier, 72-71, Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Arena. The Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout saw four lead changes and four ties, with each team leading for over 15 minutes of the game, before Xavier had the final run and took a 72-71 decision. The Musketeers took the lead for good with 5:45 to play and staved off a furious Cincinnati rally in the closing minutes. Freshman Ana Owens had a game-high 21 points for the Bearcats. It was her second-career 20-point game and was just one shy of her career-high.
RV/RV Florida State 66, Temple 62
Temple had Florida State (FSU) on the ropes but couldn't finish a late comeback, falling 66-62 to the Seminoles Sunday afternoon at McGonigle Hall. FSU, who is receiving votes in both national polls, moves to 9-1 with the win, while Temple falls to 3-7 on the season. Erica Covile recorded a double-double with 14 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Tanaya Atkinson shot 63.6% from the field, leading Temple with 16 points, while Feyonda Fitzgerald chipped in with 11 points, five boards, five assists, and three steals. Tyonna Williams rounded out the box score with eight points, three assists, and three steals.
RV Arkansas 64, Tulsa 53
RV Arkansas defeated Tulsa on Sunday afternoon by a score of 64-53 at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. Arkansas improved to 8-2 on the season with the win, while Tulsa fell to 4-5 with the loss. Tulsa’s Antoinet Webster and Kelsee Grovey paced the Hurricane with 11 points apiece, while Mariah Turner and Ashley Clark each added nine points. Jhasmin Bowen and Kelsey Brooks shared game-scoring highs with 17 points apiece for the Razorbacks, while Bowen had a game-best 12 rebounds. Jessica Jackson added 15 points for the Razorbacks.
Iona 75, UCF 67
UCF came up short on Sunday, falling 75-67 to Iona in New Rochelle, N.Y. Brittni Montgomery recorded her third double-double of the year, bringing down a career-high 24 rebounds to go with her 18 points. Montgomery’s performance on the glass tied her own school record, which she shares with former Knight Erika Jones. Zykira Lewis notched her fifth game of 20 points this year, leading UCF with 26. Once trailing by 18 points in the second half, the Knights dug in and managed to cut it to eight with 5:42 to playBut they would get no further as costly turnovers that the Gaels turned into timely points let Iona escape with the win.
