The American went 3-0 in women's basketball action on Thursday. Temple defeated Howard on the road, Tulane opened up the DoubleTree Classic with a win over Samford and Tulsa cruised in a win over New Orleans.
Temple 78, Howard 48
Temple snapped a four-game skid with a win at Howard, 78-55, Thursday evening at Burr Gymnasium. The Owls moved to 4-7 overall with the 78-48 victory, while Howard fell to 1-10 with the loss. Freshman Tanaya Atkinson led four Owls in double figures, dropping a game-high 22 points, while also adding 11 boards for the second double-double of her career. Sophomore Taylor Robinson recorded a season-high 15 points while junior Erica Covile chipped in with 14 points, nine rebounds and four steals.
NR/RV Tulane 58, Samford 56
After six lead changes and two ties in the second half, NR/RV Tulane (8-1) fought back in the final seconds to defeat Samford, 58-56, Thursday night in day one action of the DoubleTree Classic. Senior Danielle Blagg scored a team-high 16 and became the 26th Green Wave women’s basketball player to reach the 1,000 career point milestone. Tiffany Dale and Adesuwa Ebomwonyi added 11 points each for Tulane. Dale shot 5-for-8 from the field and recorded six rebounds and two blocks while Ebomwonyi grabbed a team-high eight boards and three steals.
Tulsa 78, New Orleans 55
Five Tulsa players scored in double-figures to lead the Golden Hurricane to a 78-55 win over the New Orleans Privateers Thursday night at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. Tulsa evened their season record to 5-5 with the win while New Orleans fell to 1-6. Ashley Clark scored a team-high 13 points for Tulsa, followed by 12 each from Kelsee Grovey and Kadan Brady and 10 points apiece from Mariah Turner and Jordyn Holmes. Clark and Turner also led the Hurricane in rebounding with nine boards apiece. UNO’s Randi Brown scored a game-high 16 points.
