UConn Tops DePaul; Tulane Bests Miami on Friday

The conference was 4-0 during Friday women's basketball action, including No. 2/2 UConn's win over No. 25 DePaul.

No. 2/2 UConn 98, No. 25 DePaul 64

Breanna Stewart had a game-high 25 points as No. 2/2 UConn defeated No. 25 DePaul, 98-64, Friday evening at  Webster Arena. Kia Nurse had 19 points and Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis added 16 points and nine rebounds for the Huskies. Morgan Tuck and Gabby Williams each had 14 points. UConn (7-1) outscored DePaul (7-4) 50-28 in the paint and held the Blue Demons 27 points under their season average. DePaul entered Friday's contest ranked third in the nation in scoring, putting up 91.5 points per game.

NR/RV Tulane 70, Miami (Fla.) 65

NR/RV Tulane moved to 9-1 after picking up a 70-65 victory over the visiting Miami (Fla.) in the final game of the 19th annual DoubleTree Classic. After two wins in consecutive days, Kolby Morgan and Danielle Blagg were honored by being named to the All-Tournament Team. Morgan had a team-high 18 points in Friday's win while Blagg and Tiffany Dale added seven and nine points, respectively. The Green Wave sealed the win over the Hurricanes by hitting 10-of-12 from the charity stripe late in the second half to hold off a Miami attack that sunk three consecutive 3-pointers to make it a tight game.

Houston 56, UTSA 53

Houston topped UTSA, 56-53, in the opening game of the Athletes in Action Classic in Lubbock, Texas. The victory is the fourth of the season for the Cougars, all of them by four points or less. Alecia Smith paced Houston with 15 points while Alexia Sanders set a career-high with 14. Marche' Amerson added 11 points and freshman Mariah Mitchell chipped in with a career-high nine points. Sanders hit a pair of free-throws in the final minutes to give Houston a 56-53 edge and ultimately the win.

Memphis 62, Mississippi Valley State 39

Behind a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds from junior forward Asianna Fuqua-Bey, Memphis (6-5) closed out its non-conference schedule with a 62-39 win over Mississippi Valley State (2-9) Friday night at Elma Roane Fieldhouse. It’s the first double-double of the season for Fuqua-Bey and the fifth of her career. All 12 of her rebounds came from the defensive glass. She put up 12 points on the offensive end. Ariel Hearn paced the Tigers with 15 points. She tied a season-best with six rebounds and added five assists and three steals in 32 minutes.
