Bulls Nipped by Red Storm on Sunday

RV/RV St. John's 55, RV/RV USF 52

USF took a five-point lead into halftime but couldn’t end a run by St. John’s in a 55-52 loss Sunday afternoon at the Sun Dome. In a battle of two teams receiving top-25 votes, St. John’s (7-0) fought off USF’s late rally and got a game-high 25 points from Aliyyah Handford. Danaejah Grant added 17 points while the Red Storm took advantage of 17 USF turnovers. Courtney Williams led the Bulls (6-3) with 15 points and 12 rebounds in her 18th consecutive game in double figures. The junior from Folkston, Ga., made history in the process by becoming the 21st Bull to pass the 1,000-point mark.

Fordham 71, Temple 64

Temple saw its comeback attempt fall short as visiting Fordham held off the Owls, 71-64, Sunday afternoon at McGonigle Hall. The loss dips Temple to 3-5 overall, while Fordham improves to 5-4. The Owls rallied from a 16-point deficit, cutting the lead to just three points late in the game, but Fordham didn't relinquish their advantage, closing out the win with solid free-throw shooting. Temple senior Tyonna Williams led the Owls with 20 points and four assists, while sophomore Feyonda Fitzgerald had 15 points three assists.

Bowling Green 66, Cincinnati 55

Cincinnati completed a six-game road swing with 66-55 loss to Bowling Green State on Sunday. The Falcons were able to pull away from the Bearcats thanks to a 20-2 run that spanned the final 2:35 of the first half and continued through the first 5:13 of the second half. Marley Hill paced Cincinnati, recording the second double-double of her career with 13 points and 15 rebounds. It also marks the second time this season the sophomore has totaled 15 or more rebounds in one game.

Prairie View A&M 61, Houston 56

A 16-point second half deficit proved to be too much for Houston as their rally fell short, 61-56, Sunday afternoon against Prairie View A&M. Houston is now 3-4 overall. Two Alecia Smith free throws gave the Cougars a slim lead, 51-50, with 2:51 left in the game. The Panthers scored the next six points and used the lead to hold off several Houson comeback attempts in the final minute. Jessieka Palmer fell just shy of her first career double-double, with 14 points and a career-best nine rebounds.
