Editor’s Note: Heading into the Holiday Season and the end of 2014 we thought it would be nice to look back at some of the great moments from this past fall. We scoured through lots of video footage and came up with our “12 Plays of Christmas”. Every day we will reveal a new play or moment that we consider to be one of our best from the year. The list will end with play number 1 on Christmas Eve.
Play 12 – Temple's Tavon Young Pick 6 vs UConn
Watch Play
Heading into this season, the strength of the defense was a question mark for the Temple Owls. After finishing the 2013 season with only 13 takeaways - the lowest amount in the conference - the Owls needed to improve, and certainly did. Not only did Temple improve but they finished the 2014 season leading The American with 30 takeaways and ranking second in both scoring defense and pass defense.
Early in the season Tavon Young made quite a name for himself as a ball hawk. In Temple's season opening 37-7 win at Vanderbilt, Young came away with two interceptions. In the 4th game of the season Temple headed to UConn for their first conference game of the year and the Owls came away victorious. After driving down the field on their first possession of the game, UConn found themselves with a 3rd and 5 from the Temple 21-yard line. That was when Tavon Young made one of the great defensive plays of the year for the Owls. Young intercepted Quarterback Chandler Whitmer and returned the ball 93 yards for an Owls' touchdown.
