The American Today: UConn, Temple Pick Up Home Wins

No. 1/1 UConn defeated No. 4/4 Louisville in a rematch of last year’s national championship game and Temple won its second straight decision during women’s basketball action around the conference on Sunday.

Breanna Stewart had 24 points and 10 rebounds in UConn’s 81-64 win over Louisville at Gampel Pavilion. Asia Taylor scored 18 points to lead the Cards, which had its 16-game win streak snapped. The Huskies used a 16-5 run in the second half to put the game away.

Temple improved to .500 (6-6) in league action with a 64-51 win over Memphis at the Liacouras Center. Rateska Brown scored 17 points for the Owls while Shi-Heria Shipp pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds. Ariel Hearn paced the Tigers with a game-high 22 points.      

The conference schedule is idle until Tuesday, Feb. 11. UCF hosts SMU at CFE Arena while Rutgers travels to Houston for a matchup at Hofheinz Pavilion.
