Head Coach Vivian Stringer earned her 400th career win at Rutgers and Zykira Lewis had a career-high 22 points for UCF in a win over SMU during women’s basketball action around The American on Tuesday.
Rutgers defeated Houston 74-42 at Hofheinz Pavilion and won its fourth straight contest in the process. The game was a milestone win for RU coach Vivian Stringer, who captured her 400th victory “On the Banks”. Kahleah Copper and Tyler Scaife scored 16 points apiece for the Scarlet Knights. Yasmeen Thompson had a career-high 24 points and a game-high 13 rebounds for the Cougars.
UCF earned its first win over SMU in the regular season since 2009 with a 59-54 victory at CFE Arena. The Mustangs cut the lead to three with 5:44 left to play, but timely free-throws by the Knights sealed the win for UCF. Erika Jones pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for the Knights. SMU was led by Keena Mays’ 25 points. Akil Simpson chipped in with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Cincinnati hosts Memphis on Wednesday at 7 p.m. (American Digital Network) while Temple travels to No. 4/3 Louisville for a 7 p.m. ET matchup on ESPN3.
