Rutgers nipped Cincinnati at the RAC, UConn won its 30th straight game dating back to last season and Temple shot a season-high 57 percent from the field during Tuesday women’s basketball action around the league.
Jasmine Whitfield had a career-high 16 points in her first career start for Cincinnati in the Bearcats’ 58-53 loss to Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights hit a pair of free-throws in the final seconds of regulation to seal the win. Rutgers got a game-high 18 points from Tyler Scaife.
UConn had five players in double-figure scoring in a 102-41 win over SMU at Gampel Pavilion. The Huskies also had four players with at least five assists. Bria Hartley scored 21 points and Breanna Stewart added 20 for UConn. Keena Mays paced the Mustangs with 20 points.
Temple wrapped up its Texas road trip with a 79-46 victory over Houston at Hofheinz Pavilion. The Owls snapped a four-game losing streak with the win. Erica Covile led all scorers with a career-high 18 points. Marche’ Amerson and Te’onna Campbell scored nine points apiece for the Cougars.
Asia Taylor recorded her third double-double of the season (19 points, 12 rebounds) in Louisville’s 74-59 win over UCF at CFE Arena. The Knights kept the game in reach by converting 10-of-11 free-throws over a five minute span in the second half, but the Cards held on for the victory. Sara Djassi’s 12 points led UCF.
Memphis hosts USF on Wednesday. Game time at Elma Roane Fieldhouse is slated for 8 p.m. eastern (American Digital Network).
