Rutgers defeated SMU on a buzzer beater, Houston picked up its first conference win of the season and USF defeated UCF in their first matchup at the Sun Dome in 14 years.
Rachel Hollivay’s buzzer beater gave Rutgers a 65-64 win over SMU Saturday afternoon at Moody Coliseum. The Scarlet Knights trailed by nine with two minutes before battling back for the win. Kahleah Copper had a game-high 20 points for Rutgers. The Mustangs were paced by Keena Mays’ 16 points.
Marche’ Amerson paced four Houston players in double figure scoring in the Cougars’ 48-39 win over Cincinnati. The win snapped an 11-game losing streak for UH. The Bearcats got a team-high 11 points from Alyesha Lovett. Yasmeen Thompson had 10 points and a season-high 13 rebounds for Houston.
USF defeated in-state rival UCF 89-54 and extended its win streak over the Knights to 15 games. Courtney Williams recorded her fifth double-double of the season for the Bulls (18 points, 12 rebounds). Andrea Hines and Zykira Lewis led the UCF in scoring with 19 and 17 points, respectively.
No. 1/1 UConn hosts No. 4/4 Louisville on Sunday (1 p.m.) in a top-five nationally televised contest on ESPN while Memphis travels to Temple for a 1:30 p.m. (ESPNU) matchup at the Liacouras Center.
