PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Commissioner Mike Aresco has announced the 21 teams that have been recognized with 2013-14 Team Academic Excellence Awards for having the highest collective grade-point averages in each conference sport. The selections are made by the conference’s Academic Affairs Committee.
The list of honored teams includes four that earned American Athletic Conference titles in 2013-14. UCF’s football team went unbeaten in conference play, finished the 2013 season ranked No. 10 nationally and won the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. Louisville’s men’s basketball team shared the 2013-14 American Athletic Conference regular-season title and won the tournament championship. Louisville’s women’s volleyball team went 18-0 in conference play on its way to the league title and the Cardinals’ women’s golf team captured the first American Athletic Conference title with a one-stroke victory in the conference championship.
Memphis had six of its teams earn the honor to lead all institutions, while Louisville had five teams chosen.
The winners were chosen based on the 2013-14 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution’s roster as of the last contest of the championship segment in each conference-sponsored sport.
