Big Second Half Pushes Houston Past UNLV, 47-14

HOUSTON -- Houstson set an American Athletic Conference record with 399 rushing yards as the Cougars pulled away from UNLV 47-14 Saturday at TDECU Stadium.

The Cougars, who improved to 2-2 on the season, led 13-7 at halftime, but broke the game open in the final 30 minutes, outscoring the Rebels 34-7 in the second half.

Quarterback John O'Korn shook off a pair of early interceptions to throw two touchdown passes while adding a rushing TD. 

Houston had two running backs hit for 100 yards as Ryan Jackson had 147 yards on 13 carries, while Kenneth Farrow had 113 yards and a touchdown on 14 attempts. Jackson added a 26-yard touchdown reception to his line.

The Cougars had three second-half interceptions to keep UNLV from threatening.

Houston's rushing total was the Cougars' best in a game since they had 496 rushing yards against Louisville Sept. 28, 1985.

The win leaves Houston one win shy of 400 in program history. The Cougars are 399-347-15 all-time.
